Nigerian Strategic Bloggers Conference at Sheraton Hotel, Lagos; A Recap #webtrendsng
(Sheriff Shittu, WebTrendsNG) – I was invited to this special event which was held at Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja Lagos. It’s very important that I mention the sponsor, MTN Nigeria, (you know them now!) Nigeria’s largest GSM operator and convened by Deolu Akinyemi.
The goal of the conference: To create the Framework for the possibility of a structured industry. No more, no less!
As you might have noticed, Nigeria’s blogosphere is very active and has shaped a lot of events offline, gotten international media attention and most importantly, turned bloggers to celebrity and millionaires! Those who attended were Nigeria’s top bloggers from various industries; from Startups, to trends analysis, internet marketing, Fashion, social entrepreneur and entertainment.
The conference was very engaging and enlightening as people shared their experiences in the industry. The average blogging years for the bloggers in the house was about 3 years.
Conclusion
The participants agreed that there is a need for synergy amongst Nigerian bloggers to better structure the industry and improve the quality of Nigerian publishing. One of the top issue agreed on, is the need to educate corporation about the workings of internet market and promotions.
A framework was agreed upon (which I am not at liberty to disclose now), name was chosen and continuous work will be done online via Skype and a mailing list.
A big announcement from Oluniyi is the yet to be launched Nigerian blog aggregator site, blogger.com.ng. I also announced an ad-network(Segiri) in the works!
Gifts and Raffle Draw
MTN Nigeria, the sponsor gave away gifts to the participant including a Compaq Laptop and 2 modems won through draw (whew! I didn’t win). All participants also went home with a laptop bag each.
A bigger event is being planned probably later in the year or early next year!
