“I want to be a voice for working families and small businesses in Indiana. I have a plan for the office of Secretary of State to protect our rights, and foster growth for Hoosier businesses that create jobs in our state.” – Vop Osili on his Secretary of State Campaign for the State of Indiana
Ifeanyi “VOP” Osili is currently the Democratic Candidate for Secretary of State in Indiana. Early in his life, VOP’s parents recognized his ability to connect with people and called him VOP or “Voice of the People.” This ability would later serve him in his missionary work during college in Haiti and other developing countries. On what inspired him to run for office, Vop says he was inspired by a desire to help Indianan small businesses grow and succeed. According to him, “as a small business owner, I have experienced the trials and tribulations of the economy – both in good times and in bad. Our business has been fortunate to survive and thrive to a point where we now do work world-wide. However, over half of all small businesses will fail within the first five years of opening. I want to change the way the Secretary of State’s office does business – and help small business owners grow and succeed to help put our Hoosier families back to work.”
Vop has previously served as a Founding Partner of A2so4 Architecture, a green Indianapolis-based architectural design company recognized as one of the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified firms in the United States and that has offices in Indianapolis and Abu Dhabi. He was appointed by former Indiana Governor, Governor Frank O’Bannon from 2001 – 2005 to the Indiana Fire and Building Services Commission and served as Chairman of the Indianapolis Board of Zoning Appeals from 2005 – 2008, co-chair of the Urban Design Oversight Committee in Marion County, board member of the United Way of Central Indiana, board member of the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis and as a Trustee of The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis.
Recognized by the United States Small Business Administration as a “Rising Star,” VOP has remained committed to job creation for economic development in the State of Indiana. On his commitment to job creation small business development in the state, he recently said, “small business is the economic backbone of our Hoosier towns and communities. Our stores, local restaurants and other businesses provide the majority of Hoosier jobs across our great state. As a small business owner, I know first-hand the challenges faced by entrepreneurs today, I have made business services and job creation my number one priority as Secretary of State, and have developed a straightforward and comprehensive plan for small business owners to quickly and seamlessly access resources and opportunities they need to grow and provide jobs for our fellow Hoosiers.”
Vop received a B.A. in Architecture from Carnegie Mellon University and an M.S. in Urban Planning from Columbia University, New York. His campaign has been endorsed by the Indianapolis Star, the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette and the Evansville Courier and Press. He lives in Indianapolis with his wife, Una (a Professor of Economics at Indiana University – Purdue University), his son, Arinze and his daughter, Tasia.
