Social media adoption is waxing strong in the country and is extremely popular within the entertainment industry. Massive online music/video and brand promoting was witnessed in November. Notjustok.com was the officially sales spot for MI(Jude Abaga, Nigerian Artiste) new album launch. The site moved a whopping 24 spots to enter the top 50 sites, thanks to the album launch.
MI’s album launch also took the “twittosphere” by storm as the hashtag trending on that day, making him the first Nigerian and Artiste to trend on twitter, (save for Wande Coal’s saga in July).
The Sound City Music Video Awards was the first Nigerian entertainment event to be extremely covered on twitter as entertainers carried their fans along during the awards night.
We are currently writing our yearly report on the performance of the industry at the moment and expectations for next year. You can take our survey here.
