MOBITEL IS BACK AND BETTER!
Mobitel Nigeria has doubled its service plan data cap from 5GB to 10GB effective 1st December, 2010. This new plan gives Mobitel one of the best value propositions for data services in Nigeria and emphasizes its position as the primary network for true broadband access in the country. The change applies to all existing and new customers on Mobitel’s ADSL and WiMAX networks.
This offer is unprecedented in the Nigeria’s telecommunication industry which is currently characterized by slow, frustrating but expensive broadband connectivity and poor service delivery. The Industry is experiencing a revolution with the re-entry of Mobitel Nigeria into the telecommunications market and the launch of her world class 4G WiMAX wireless broadband service which delivers true broadband with a superior user experience.
4G refers to the fourth generation of cellular wireless standards and is the successor to 3G and 2G families of standards. With the introduction of 4G services to the Nigerian telecommunications space, Mobitel is set to take communications within Nigeria to the next level, offering not just faster connectivity, but also opening up a whole new world of communications with access to faster internet, clearer call lines through VoIP ,video streaming, gaming, internet television and more – all at more affordable rates.
The 4G broadband technology provides improved performance, lower total cost of ownership and enables a new era of personalized services. 4G networks are IP-based and flatter with fewer nodes to manage. The benefits are significant and can make 4G broadband a truly disruptive technology providing service providers a cost-effective way to deploy next generation technology and services and redefining the end-user experience.
Mobitel a foremost telecommunications firm in Nigeria commenced operations in 1998 reaching a subscriber base of 20,000 by 2006. The company underwent a challenging period in 2005 that resulted ultimately in suspension of her operations in 2006. The new Mobitel emerged after being bought over by a consortium in 2008 and following a successful acquisition in March 2010 of the 2.3 GHz license in 2009 from the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC).
With its 4G launch in late October 2010, Mobitel became the pioneer provider of real broadband service in Nigeria with speed starting at 512kbps and with capacity to hit 100Mbps. Mobitel differentiates on consistency and reliability of speed compared to the current segment leaders. What this means for the internet savvy young Nigerian who needs to keep up with the vivacity of social media and the corporate executive who needs to meet with and transact business with partners across the globe virtually is ability to download favourite songs, pictures, sitcom, and large videos in seconds, as well as the freedom to watch live streaming video on the go from the home or the office without hassles. The dramatic increase in download speed provided by this service can best be described as the future.
Although Mobitel intends to reactivate its fixed voice operations in selected locations where the infrastructure existed, the new suite of services are being offered under the name – Mobitel 4G Access leveraging 4G WiMAX technology offering broadband and voice services. With an aggressive national rollout plan, it is expected that beginning from Lagos, all of Nigeria would by 2012 have come under Mobitel’s 4G coverage with particular emphasis on rural telephony.
Customers can access this service in areas already covered in Lagos through the Mobitel USB dongle or through the indoor and outdoor devices.
With this new data cap, Mobitel offers customers much more broadband experience for less, fulfilling the brand promise, of delivering the best customer experience as Africa’s most successful 4G network!
