YDZ draws the Curtain in Calabar
3The need for young people to identify and develop their potentials in the different sectors of the economy was reiterated at the Youth Development Zone coordinated by Pamela Braide with full support from the Cross River State government . The Youth Development Zone which is part of the month – long Calabar Festival tap from the pull of professional experience of celebrities in the entertainment industry that come to Calabar for the festival to empower young people.
In it’s third year, YDZ commenced on the 8th - 22nd December 2010, running foundation classes in topics such as effective communication, goal setting, emotional intelligence, entrepreneurship, with mentorship sessions with celebrities such as Asa, Sauce kid, Sasha, J Martins, Darey Art Alade and Larry Williams, Dede Mabiaku, YQ, Point “n” Kill.
“The core aim of the YDZ was to create a platform for young people to meet their favorite acts, not as celebrity meet fan, but as aspiring young people curious to learn about their journeys” said Pamela Braide
The graduation ceremony of YDZ was graced by Her Excellency, Mrs. Obioma Liyel Imoke and Theatre icon, Dede Mabiaku. Obioma Imoke, spoke passionately about the value of hard work and the need for young people to tap into the opportunities the festival is presenting them with. ON YDZ, she stated “We are going to make sure that YDZ runs for 4 weeks next year and all the artistes both local and international that come in sign on to the YDZ!”
