Nigerians urged to be more vigilant!
2Following the recent bombings in the country, Nigerians have been urged to be more vigilant and security conscious. One of Nigeria’s Military officials, Air Marshal Petirin said: “Do not allow anybody to come and leave a bag, or any kind of object, especially when he is not there,” while speaking on state TV.
There have been bomb attacks in Abuja and other cities in recent times:
- On December 31st, a bomb exploded at a local bar in a market near Sani Abacha barracks in Abuja.
- On Wednesday, two blasts disrupted a political rally in the southern city of Yenagoa, wounding several people
- Bomb attacks in the city of Jos, a flash-point between Nigerian Christians and Muslims, left 80 people dead over Christmas – an Islamist group said it was behind these attacks
- In October, at least 12 people were killed in explosions in Abuja as the country celebrated 50 years since independence from the UK – this was blamed on oil militants.
As Nigerians prepare for the 2011 elections, we hope 2011 will usher in better news in the country. Happy New Year, CP-Africans!
