Lagos, January 5th 2011 – Come Sunday 16th January 2011 at The Knot Centre Yaba Lagos, a large number of young women are poised to benefit from knowledgeable and impactful mentoring sessions facilitated by equally extraordinary and remarkable female speakers at the Leading Ladies Summit. The debut edition of the Summit is being hosted under the theme ‘Dare to Dream’, and is an initiative of BrookStone Consult; a rapidly growing and dynamic PR and events Consultancy.
Commenting on the forthcoming event, Project Visionary and Principal Consultant BrookStone Consult, Francesca Uriri said ‘The Leading Ladies Summit is primarily an event that seeks to propagate the practice of ‘Paying Forward’; where older and more successful women have the chance to adequately mentor and effect the lives of younger women aged between 16 – 35 years. These young women will be drawn from a pool of recent secondary school leavers, undergraduates and graduates of higher institutions, young entrepreneurs, and business women.
The event has 4 female speakers, who will share their experiences as already established doyennes in their respective disciplines, and coordinate interactive feedback sessions that spur the attendees into achieving their set goals in life. Confirmed speakers for this year’s event are: Funmi Omitowoju, Former CEO UBA Prestige, Bukky George, MD CEO HealthPlus Pharmacy and CasaBella International Limited, Lisa Folawiyo, Creative Head Jewel By Lisa and Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, Internationally acclaimed actress, musician and activist.’
Speaking further, she said ‘This edition tagged ‘Dare to Dream’ is particularly symbolic because it is the beginning of a new year, and we hope to encourage the attendees to go all out, follow their dreams and make a success out of their lives. It is particularly noteworthy that the speakers are drawn from different sectors of the economy so that there is something in it for everyone. Secondly the fact that all the speakers are female means that they’ll be much more able to connect with the attendees and vice versa.’
Subsequent editions of the Leading Ladies Summit would be bi-annual; held once in Lagos, and another in a different state of the Federation, in each of the six geo-political zones. The idea is to take the summit to almost every state in Nigeria, to ensure maximum impact, and then onwards to other countries in Africa
The core aim of the Leading Ladies initiative is to establish a bi annual event that serves to effectively mentor, inspire, and motivate young women into making positive and informed choices, which in turn impact positively on their lives; as well as to spread awareness about particular challenges that concern the female gender, and to offer useful and lasting solutions. The mission statement of the Initiative is to use the event as a platform to propagate the all round development of young women in Nigeria, and all over the African continent.
The Leading Ladies Initiative is proudly supported by Nutricima, Dana Group, Nestle Silverbird Group and Stanbic IBTC.
