Things appear to be picking up pace for the Western Coast of Africa in the area Information and Communication Technology. A commercial data centre would not have been possible so soon with the present poor internet connectivity rates and power supply but thanks to companies like MainOne Cable and Globalcom Ltd, a company simply identified as West Africa Data Centers is taking the bold step of opening the first commercial data centre in West Africa. In their own words…
West Africa Data Centers is opening its first data centre in Accra in 2011. We will be the first commercial carrier-neutral co-location facility serving the entire West African region.
WADC is a private consortium of established international investors who are living and based in Ghana.
You will agree with me that it is currently more economically viable to have such facility in Ghana rather than say, Nigeria due to the stable power supply available there. This is a smart business move. Kudos to them.
