This Presidential debate has not reflected on any objective or successes of a presidential debate. Non of these person(s) have really answered correctly any of the question(s). It is quite unfair that at this stage, A whole presidential aspirants do not have any good and promising idea on how to generate constant power in
the Nigerian system, with all the gas flaring in the Niger oil rich States (Niger- Delta). In this 21st century, the basic means to generate electricity is amongst others, using the power plants (Gas- Plants), to generate power. None of their ideas reflected on any good means to generate power and their already laying emphasis on how to divide the bills (increasing tariff). How can you as a presidential aspirant talk about increasing tariff for a Country were the majority is suffering in penury (abject poverty). How do you want the increased tariffs to be paid? You have been asked on how you to create employment? If you by any chance become the president. What have we got as an answer- They are siting examples on how government have used the state money to buy a presidential jet. That example would not have been a bad one, if at first you have answered your questions and used those examples to back them up. As noted in this debate, there is nothing reasonable to grasp from this debate. A very good question was raised- how would you involve the youths in policy making (public deliberation), and one of the aspirants was talking about young farmers association and vice versa. I am most totally disappointed by the members present at the conference, all they do is laugh!!! Think of a very good critical question to ask, and all you do is laugh when a question is answered. Do you even care if the questions asked, were given the right and expected answers. The idea for a debate is to throw reasonable questions to those at the hot seats, who might by chance become your president. This debate to me is no form of practical deliberation as represented by deliberative democratic theories. As a means of governance, democracy does
not concern whatever the people at a given moment may happen to decide, but a set of arrangements for securing their control over the public decision making process on the ongoing basis. Deliberative democracy requires a stronger form of open- mindedness, opinion shifting according to the force of the better argument, and that instrumental rationality apply before and during deliberative democracy. It needs a stronger form of rationality- one which can question existing norms (critically), and not laugh at them. By laughing you are encouraging them to even speak more unreasonably, and with more courage, because they believe, what you only know how to do is laugh and nothing more. Just- a pulse, and think about it the other way round, If those present (majority) at the debate have to some extent asked some reasonable question. They (presidential aspirants) would consciously think of how to answer the next questions. This debate is not fair at all, and has generated nothing, with regards to what Nigerians all over the World are expecting, and the World in general- I'm Sorry!!!
