Did you receive a yellow balloon in Nairobi?
0Imagine stepping out of a taxi or bus on a Monday morning and being handed a cheerful looking yellow balloon! Well, we are told that is what went down in Nairobi recently as over 10,000 yellow balloons were handed out to Kenya workers.
The aim of this gesture? “The big idea is to insert the iconography of celebration… [into] the habitual nature of working life,” Yazmany Arboleda, a US artist told the BBC’s Network Africa programme.
“I find that this work is even more significant now that Kenya’s social climate has been dampened by the al-Shabab threats and the recent attacks,” Mr Arboleda said in a statement.
“I believe strongly that countering grenades with balloons could send an important message to the Nairobi community and the world at large,” he said.
