Olaleshe, a free Kenyan app that emerged as one of the winners of this year’s Android Developer Challenge, Sub Saharan Africa is a geo-alert application that can help one communicate when one is in trouble.
The application won in the competition’s social/communication category and was created by young Kenyan developer, David Lemayian.
Here is how the application works. With the click of a button located on the app’s homescreen, users can alert pre-selected people in their contact list of their location and the fact that they are in danger.
From the apps’ page on Android Market:
- Enter your In-Case of Emergency (ICE) Contacts.
- Choose these Contacts from your phone book.
- Send an SMS that you are in trouble with a link to your location to all your ICE Contacts.
- Have a single-click widget button to be located on your homescreen for quick access.
This app might localize well if marketed effectively.
