Exclusive: Samsung to launch Crime Prevention App with SHOUT SA

Speaking to George Ferreira (Chief Operations Officer – Samsung Electronics Africa) and Paulo Ferreira ( Head of Mobile Product and Software Solutions – Samsung Africa) they revealed that – although details are still sketchy – Samsung in partnership with SHOUT SA had commissioned the development of a mobile app.

Paulo Ferreira - Samsung
This app will be pre-loaded on Samsung mobile phones that will allow victims (or those witnessing a crime) of crime to press one button and the app will call the nearest police station (using location based services) and have the officers drive out to the scene.
This is a great innovation which also has potential to be launched on the rest of the African continent. It will definetly go a long way to assisting in the prevention of crime and especially in the response times as it will most likely cut out the need to first call a call center where details still have to be collected and the crime scene’s location still to be determined.
Paulo could not confirm the launch date but the app is expected to be launched some time in December 2011. We at CP-Africa believe this is a good innovation and will definetly let you – our readers – know once the app is available.
