2 million + views later, Chop my money remix becomes Nigeria’s most viral YouTube video ever

When Akon collaborated with P-Square on the remix of their popular single, Chop my Money, the reaction was frenetic. Online Nigerians at home and abroad trooped to YouTube to watch the video and shared it across the web just as passionately. In twenty four hours, the video garnered over 200,000 views. A month later, it garnered about two million views. At the time of this writing, the video currently has about 2.5 million views and it looks like there is no stopping it.

What made the video so popular?

“Chop my Money” was already a strong song on its own with a catchy hook and the Akon factor just made it even stronger. Akon’s appearance at the start of the video performing a pretty well composed and harmonious verse with relevant lyrics seems to have swayed Nigerians. He brought his world class talent to bear and Nigerianized it  and his “Chop my money” dance was more than icing on the cake. The video was well done, up and comer, Mr. May D captured viewers hearts with his catchy lines and P-Square brought their signature energy and stage presence to the table.

It was a recipe for success that guaranteed millions of views for P-Square. Though some of their older videos have garnered over a million views over time, this is the first time a video of theirs has garnered over 2 million views in a month. It is also the first time, period that any Nigerian video on YouTube has grown so quickly.

Thumbs up P-Square!
