Nigeria based company, IHS Africa launches Africa’s largest solar powered cell site
0Nigeria based company, IHS Africa recently launched Africa’s largest solar powered “cell site” dedicated to the telecommunications industry. IHS Africa which is currently listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange hopes to reduce carbon dioxide emission by up to 24,000 tonnes through its installation.
“Rural communities offer a new potential source of revenue for mobile operators, as they continue to expand the roll out of mobile data services. Site access is often difficult in rural areas and connection to an electricity grid is seldom possible or prohibitive in price, so a standalone power system is often required. As the importance of wireless technologies grows, more towers will be needed, placing greater demand on solar power,” said IHS’ Group CTO, William Saad.
““We are proud to be one of the first tower infrastructure companies to deploy solar technology in Africa,” he said.
IHS Africa is one of the leading telecommunications infrastructure providers in Africa.
