As part of Google’s drive to provide relevant and useful local information to users, Google is working hard to improve the quality of Google maps for Nigeria. One of the ways in which this is done is by hosting MapUps in which communities come together voluntarily to map their respective communities using Google Map Maker. MapUps are held globally and have significantly contributed to Google Maps data seen by millions of users all over the world. See pictures from previous MapUps here.
A MapUp event with volunteer Youth Corps Members is scheduled for 30th May 2012 and would run for about 2 weeks. It is an opportunity for the NYSC community to volunteer to improve the quality maps for Nigeria.
Participants will be presented with a certificate after they have successfully mapped locations.
The initiative is completely voluntary and Google would not be paying E-Green Services or the participating Youth Corps Members for this engagement. Winners of the mapping competition would however be acknowledged and presented with prizes ranging from tablet devices to cellular phones.
