0Nigeria’s e-commerce space just got even more interesting with the launch of 1500naira.com. Launched in April 2012, the online store offers Nigerians a wide variety of products at the affordable flat rate of N1500. Products range from leather slippers to skinny jeans.
We had a quick chat with a company representative recently and according to her, Nigerians have been quite receptive of the site since its April launch. Initially, many people didn’t trust the site and just bought one item at a time to test its authenticity.
In addition, many Nigerians indicated that they would feel more comfortable with a physical N1500 store. However, eventually, they became repeat buyers with many buying multiple items at a time. For a site that just launched in April this year, it seems to have done well for itself based on its Alexa web rankings. When asked about their marketing strategy, we were told that they rely on Blackberry Messenger and social media platforms.
