Ecobank recently launched a mobile money service in Nigeria to support the country’s cashless drive. Speaking at the product’s launch yesterday, Ecobank Nigeria’s Managing Director, Mr. Jubril Aku said, “As we all know, mobile money services have huge potential in markets where mobile penetration vastly outpaces the number of people with bank account. This is the clear case in Nigeria today as we have available over 90 million cell phone users, both the banked and unbanked. There is therefore an urgent need to offer an affordable, but convenient, solution to money transfer services”
According to him, the bank has commenced an ambitious move to expand its retail agent network across the country so as to reach as expand its reach.
Partners for Ecobank Mobile Money include Glo, Airtel, Etizalat and Roamware.
