Where is she now? CNN spotlights Chioma Ajunwa, West Africa’s first female Olympic gold medalist in a track and fields event
0About 16 years ago, Chioma Ajunwa made national and international headlines when she became the first West African woman to win an Olympics gold medal in a track and fields event. She came out tops in the women’s long jump event at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia with a jump length of 7.12m. She was subsequently made a Member of the Order of the Niger (M.O.N.) by her home country, Nigeria. Since winning the medal, she has since returned to her profession as an officer with the Nigerian Police Force.
