President Jonathan to launch YouWin 2 specifically for women
0President Goodluck Jonathan is set to launch the second edition of his popular Youth Enterprise with Innovation (YouWin!) program in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Finance.
In a recent statement released by the Ministry of Finance, YOUWIN! 2 would be exclusively for young female entrepreneurs between the ages of 18 and 45.
The first edition of YouWin was fiercely contested and produced about 1,200 winners from various parts of the country. Winners of the competition were given prizes and grants worth up to N10 million including technical support and mentorship.
During the first phase of the YouWin program, only 17 percent of participants were women. Speaking on this statistic, Nigeria’s Finance Minister, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala said “if empowering women is smart economics, empowering girls is smarter economies.’’
World Bank statistics indicate that empowering women and girls in an economy directly increases a country’s GDP growth. This phenomenon is especially witnessed in developing regions of the world.
