A new airline, Africa World Airlines launched in Accra, Ghana recently. The airline which is a joint venture between the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Strategic African Securities and the Hainan Airlines of China aims to change the face of aviation in the country and eventually, West Africa.
The airline will initially ply the domestic routes of Kumasi and Tamale amongst others and will also ply West African cities including Ouagadougou, Abidjan, Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcout, Dakar and Banjul.
The airline officially launched at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), Accra and is the fifth domestic airline in operation in Ghana.
Speaking at the company’s launch, its Founder, Mr. Togbe Afede said:
“Gone are the days when someone travelling from Accra to Burkina Faso would have to transit through France. “We pledge our commitment to making Accra the hub of the aviation industry in the sub-region.”
