Nigeria’s ‘Supersand Eagles’ have retained their title as Champions of Beach Soccer. They defeated Portugal’s Seleccao das Quinas 8-7 in the finals of the Copa Lagos Beach Soccer Worldwide Tournament at the Eko Atlantic Beach Soccer Stadium today.
Nigeria won all three of their games at the four-team invitational tournament in Lagos. They were also noted to have scored the fastest goal ever in the history of the tournament when they beat Argentina five goals to nothing.
Last year, the Supersand Eagles defeated Brazil to emerge the inaugural winners of the Copa Lagos.
Copa Lagos Beach Soccer tournament started on Friday and the organizers and sponsors have resolved to make the event an annual one.
“Yes, we have arranged with Beach Soccer World Wide to make the event an annual event,” Kinetic Sports’ Samson Adamu.
“Copa Lagos is here to stay, we are even looking into ways to expand the tournament and take it further.
“Beach soccer will be in Nigeria for sure. One of our big goals is to make Nigeria the central hub for beach soccer in Africa.
