Mali v Nigeria - 2013 Africa Cup of Nations Semi-Final

Nigeria’s Super Eagles wins the African Cup Of Nations (AFCON) 2013 – beat Burkina Faso – first win in 19 years

Super Eagle’s Sunday Mba scored the lone winning goal

The Super Eagles of Nigeria emerged winners of this year’s African Cup of Nations in what many have called a spectacular, well deserved victory for the West African nation’s team. This is the Super Eagles first win in 19 years. The Super Eagles  won the match scoring a lone goal against Burkina Faso. The lone goal was scored by Super Eagles’ Sunday Mba. Mba, 24 had scored the winning goal in Nigeria’s 2-1 semi-final win over Cote D’Ivoire. In his younger years, he played for Nigeria’s Enyimba United and Enugu Rangers.

This was an emotional win for Nigeria who have had a litany of talented players over the years but yet have failed to win the cup for almost two decades. Nigeria’s last win was in 1994.

The win was also emotional for Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi who was captain of the 1994 winning team.

The Nigerian team delighted their fans after their stunning 4-1 victory against Mali. They previously beat Ivory Coast 2-1 and Ethiopia 2-0.

The Super Eagles by winning AFCON 2013 will be representing Africa at 2013 FIFA Confederation Cup.

Congratulations Super Eagles! Spread the good news with your friends.

Interestingly, Didier Drogba predicted the super eagles’ win. Check out his prediction: Nigeria will win AFCON – Drogba
