Bowei Gai, former founder of Cardmunch [the business card iPhone app] which he sold to LinkedIn is the brains behind the World Startup Report.
Along with Dave McClure [500 STARTUPS: Facebook Fund, Wildfire by Google, TaskRabbit] and Brad Feld [THE FOUNDRY GROUP: Zynga, Yesware], his mission is to examine any given city’s opportunities, current innovations, power players, future possibilities, bright minds, technological resources and entrepreneurial climate that contributes to ‘said country’s’ worldwide reputation as a hub.
In his travels to numerous cities across the globe, he along with a team of Silicon Valley businessmen & volunteers, will be passing by Africa stopping off at Nairobi and Addis Ababa solely. The Africa itinerary includes sit-downs, meet & greet events and office visits with government officials, entrepreneurs and startups such as Ushahidi, NaiLab, Mobile Planet, Mama Mikes, iHub’s members and others as well as connecting with the Kenya ICT Board. In Ethiopia, Berry Advertising, ICE Addis, GEW Ethiopia, Startup Addis and others will be liaising with the WSR team.
150-200 people are expected to attend the official Nairobi event to be held May 10th at Strathmore University. Equal numbers will connect with the World Startup Report Team in Addis Ababa. In addition, the event will gain significant exposure via World Startup Report’s online connection to its global network of startups/entrepreneurs/ innovators in 29 countries and 36 cities.
Brought to you by Urban Global Ventures of San Francisco, a firm leading the way in early stage funding of startups between Silicon Valley & Africa and National Tour Host, Chebet Ng’Ok, financial consultant and entrepreneur, African startups will have the opportunity to interact with Gai and his team, tell their story and hear theirs.
