Puku is a stylish mobile charger designed with long power outage in mind. Seeing an opportunity after a disaster, Nigerian- American Ani Onuorah and Tanzanian Meck Khalfan developed the Puku after Hurricane Sandy, which left thousands of New Yorkers powerless.
Supporting most USB-charged devices, Puku chargers work with smartphones, tablets, digital cameras and gaming devices that charge via a USB cable. These chargers flaunt a long lifespan of 500 charging cycles and a power efficiency by shutting off once each device is charged to 100% .
The charger is beautiful, so stylish. The colours stand out from the pack and the design is sleek.
Talking about the design and its stylish edge, Ani says ” “Our vision for Puku has always been to create a brand that is synonymous with quality, style and inspiring design. We’ve looked at so many competing chargers and see the same boring, brick-shaped design with neutral colors. This didn’t make sense to us. We value quality AND style in all aspects of our lives, so why couldn’t that extend to our chargers as well?”
“When we started out my business partner Meck Khalfan and I asked ourselves that very question. What is it about our charger we want to be unique? We knew we had to find a good designer. It’s the superior design that makes Puku unique. It’s got curves and an interesting minimally designed indicator that changes color as the capacity drops. The Puku is very cool and trendy. We actually have a lot of fashion enthusiast who immediately gravitate to the Puku as soon as they see it. We were the first to introduce colors on this scale. Yes, there are other manufacturers who’ve since copied our colors, but you’re not getting the same brand or feeling of comfort you get when you’re holding a Puku. It’s very different.”
On the choice of name, Ani says “Puku is a breed of antelopes found in the savannah grasslands of Africa. Puku’s are very strong and resilient and have a great talent for survival. Like these creatures, we think our chargers are strong yet beautiful and will help keep your devices up and running”
The Puku chargers are a line of three models, Spark, Flash and Bolt . Each features different sizes and capacities to fit every need; the Spark provides 2-3 full smartphone charges and 40-75% charge on tablets, the Flash provides 3-5 smartphone charges and 50-100% charge on tablets, and the Bolt provides 4-6 smartphone charges and at least 100% charge on tablets.
