Located in Kebbi State,Kanta Museum is located in Argungu. The museum was built in 1831 and was named after the man who founded Kebbi Kingdom, Mohammed Kanta. The museum was the Emir’s palace until 1942 and serves as a royal tomb, all past Emirs of Kebbi Kingdom have been reportedly interred there. After the building became vacant, on July 1, 1958 it was officially commissioned as a museum to house Argungu’s cultural heritage. Though renovated and reconstructed, extra care was given to maintain its ancient architectural beauty.
Argungu town is a traditional tourist city, it hosts an annual international fishing festival; Argungu Fishing Festival. The Kanta Museum is a tourist’s delight for tourists in Argungu.
