W.TEC is a Nigerian non-governmental organization actively engaged in the economic and social empowerment of girls and women, using information and communication technologies (ICTs), it was set up in January 2008. The NGO chose to focus on women and train them in ICT so they can have income generating skills.
This would be achieved by providing technology education for Nigerian women and girls so that they are able to use ICTs effectively for work, activism and networking. Another of their goal is to produce innovative and ground-breaking research that supports the development and implementation of technology programs for women and girls and establishing a network of technology-fluent alumni and mentors.
In furtherance of this Vision and goals to Empower Women Technologically, W.TEC in March held a Technology & Entrepreneurship Program at The U.S Consulate in Lagos. The W.TEC Technology & Entrepreneurship Program is a development certificate course targeted at women widely aimed at equipping them with useful Technological and ICT skills that will improve their business, employability and productivity in the work and business place.
The purpose of this program is to work with women who are SME entrepreneurs, professional workers and artisans who are literate enough to understand the importance of ICT in today’s world.
The course is designed to be an eye-opener towards exploring career opportunities and options related to information technology. Women would be empowered with information for life and career development, and equally armed with a variety of functional technological & relevant ICT skills for their workplace and business.
Another class of The Technology & Entrepreneurship class holds in the month of May and it’s absolutely free. It holds Fridays and Saturdays in May.
