Are you fascinated by the indigenous language of the Western Nigeria? Would you love to learn to speak or improve on your knowledge?
Then I found three apps that may interest you, okay 4 actually.
First is iSabi™ Yoruba By UnatezeSoft, LLC. Downloading iSabi™ Yoruba means you will hear each Yoruba word or phrase pronounced by a native speaker. You can also record and playback your own pronunciation of each Yoruba phrase.
That way, you can compare your recordings with the native speaker pronunciations to improve and learn at your pace. The dictionary is offline, you do not need Internet access. The app requires iOS 7.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.
Then there is the Speakyoruba app developed by ajalaco.com
SpeakYoruba combines beautifully illustrated flashcards with an interactive touch interface for a fun and easy way to learn Yoruba. Animated flashcards, memory puzzles and translation games are perfect for kids young and old to build a basic vocabulary. Available for iPod/iPod Touch and iPad in the Apple App Store.
Another teaches proverbs, the Yoruba language is known for its rich use of proverbs, one cannot speak the language and leave out the proverbs. It is called Owe on Google Store (pronounced Oh-way) — meaning ‘proverbs’ in English. This an Android application that demystifies Yoruba proverbs.
The other is the Yoruba Bible Text on Google Store. Reading the bible in Yoruba means you will get to almost read daily (if you do read the bible) and what better way of practising a language than daily reading? I have seen a Yoruba bible version on Blackberry’s popular Bible App too, YouVersion.
