British actor, David Oyelowo has been announced as the new James Bond! The actor received a personal invitation from Ian Fleming estate to be the voice of James Bond in Trigger Mortis, a new officially commissioned Bond book written by Anthony Horowitz.
Although Oyelowo will just be the voice of Bond, it’s a great progress for him. Describing how honoured he was, Oyelowo said: “I am officially the only person on planet Earth who can legitimately say: ‘I am the new James Bond’ – even saying that name is the cinematic equivalent of doing the ‘to be or not to be’ speech.”
“I was asked specifically by the Fleming estate, which is really special.” he added.
Born in Oxford to Nigerian parents, the actor is is best known for his roles in Interstellar, The Help and Selma, where he acted as Martin Luther King. He was also the first black actor to play an English monarch in a production by the Royal Shakespeare Company, in “Henry VI.”
Over 100m Bond books written by various authors have been sold worldwide. The Trigger Mortis writer, Anthony Horowitz, has written more than 40 books and, as a television screenwriter, created the Bafta-winning Foyle’s War. Horowitz expressed how honoured he was to have Oyelowo play the role of Bond, describing him as one with a brilliant voice and talent for bringing out the nuances of dialogue and characters.
