Today, the organizers of the English Premier League (EPL) African Player of the Month announced Algeria’s Riyad Mahrez who plays for Leicester city as the winner of the award. Riyad beat Nigeria’s Victor Moses (West Ham), Odion Ighalo (Watford) and Senegal’s Mame Biram Diouf (Stoke City) to the September edition of the award.
The announcement was made in a release signed by the CEO, Tunde Adelakun, “it was really a close call as Africans, for the second month running, showed ” exemplary quality in the highly competitive English Premier League”.
He also added, “the quality was there for in Africans for September and anyone who says Africa does not contribute enough to the Premier League just needs to see that stats from August and September. It was great to see our stars’ names popping up on news tabloids”.
Riyad Mahrez was a hot cake during the summer transfer window as top clubs across Europe jostled for his signature. He remains a talent to watch out for as the season progresses in the England.
He has 12 goals already in 56 appearances for Leicester City to his name.
