The Nigerian Under-17 National team known as the Golden Eaglets, defeated their Chilean counterparts by 5 goals to 1 early this morning inside the beautiful Estadio Sausalito in Chile.
The victory comes as the second after the opening win against the United States team. The win also qualifies the team into the next round of the prestigious tournament.
Africa is well represented in this edition of the tournament having won six of the 15 previous editions, Nigeria winning the championship four times, including the inaugural competition at China ‘85 and the last in UAE 2013.
The Golden Eaglets go into the next round with high hopes and expectations across Africa having won the last edition held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Other African representatives at the tournament include; South Africa, Guinea, and Mali.
The venue for the next match in the competition is Estadio Francisco Sanchez Rumoroso in the city of Coquimbo.
The team is also the first team to book its place in the Round of 16 with the last round of matches yet to be played in this year’s championship billed to face the third placed team in either group C, D or E.
Other African teams seemingly have not brought their magic wand to this year’s championship, with Guinea drawing her first match against England and losing the second one against Korea Republic. South Africa also lost her first match against Costa Rica and Mali playing a draw in its first match and th second set to be played today against Ecuador.
The continent’s hopes to shine again at this year’s edition lies on the Nigerian team led by Emmanuel Amuneke.
The football governing body, FIFA has also issued a statement saying Nigeria is one of the countries to beat in Chile 2015.
The championship is set to come to a close on Sunday, 8th of November, 2015.
