The latest short Nollywood movie which has garnered one of the highest views of its trailer on You Tube this year, November 18 has been the talk of the town and one of the best things that have happened to Nigeria in 2015.
During the weekend, I met with the producer of the movie at a cozy spot in Lagos, Nigeria and she shared her experiences on the movie.
Ladi: Introduce yourself ma’am
Joy: I am Joy Ubeku, an actress, Model and also a producer
Ladi: Please tell us about your project?
Joy: It’s not a huge project though but with what I was able to achieve from the movie so far is a huge step forward. Other productions from me will definitely showcase well-groomed talents who can interpret & be natural with the script
Ladi: What is the inspiration behind movie?
Joy: The Movie is a true life story, I played the lead role. I was inspired by my late mom
Ladi: What are some of the challenges faced thus far?
Joy: Challenges, (smiles), so far none and except the emotional challenges faced during the movie.
Ladi: What has been the reception like although I know everyone is talking about it?
Joy: I have been getting a lot of positive feedback from a lot people with a number of people getting across to my team on the need for partnership, although we are still open to more though.
Ladi: I heard the short movie has been nominated for some awards even before its release? How true is this?
Joy: Nominated (laughs), that’s not true but people have been commending my effort so far and they even advised me to take it to the cinema so yeah I hope it gets nominated someday.
Ladi: What should be expected from you after this?
Joy: I think the need to be natural and dedicated to my work should be my number one priority so as to gain the interest of the fans more. That’s the only way one can get accepted in the industry. Also, when you don’t do it well critics will surely surface & I’m going to try as much as possible to avoiding wrong interpretation of scripts. My next shoot is January next year by God’s grace.
So, there you have Miss Joy Ubeku, it was nice having her on CP Africa. We wish she goes further than she is in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
