The Lagos based NGO, Goal Enhancement Motivators, popularly regarded as GEM Initiatives who previously embarked on a school enlightenment programme in lagos, have embarked on a medical outreach by their team in Lagos state, Nigeria.
According to the Programme Director of GEM Intitiavtes, Miss Joan Chidimma Udeozor, “The community is habituated by people who patronize traditional healers more and it is necessary that we do this outreach”
She also added that, “For a community with slightly over 1,500 residents, a turn out of over 1,000 people can be adjudged as a success after the programme and it shows how orthodox medicine is a necessity here”
While commending the organizers of the medical outreach, the Baale (Head of Community), Chief Rasaki Solawole praised the organizers and also pleaded with the NGO to always come around as often as possible.
The Head of the Medical Unit of the NGO, Dr. Dacosta who spoke to me acknowledged the prevalence of malaria and high blood pressure in the patients attended to during the rural medical outreach. He also praised the community members for their co-operation during the outreach citing that many of them were well behaved.
The President of the NGO, Mr Mgbemere Uchechukwu, who encouraged other groups of young people to continually give back to the society who made them. He also pleaded with corporate bodies and private organizations to come to the aid of the organization and sponsor them.
