Ogun state, Nigeria will be hosting Africa’s first drums festival from the 19th to the 22nd of April, 2016.
The drums festival which is the first of its kind on the continent is organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Ogun state and is expected to celebrate and showcase various drums in the state.
According to the organizers, the epoch-making event is tagged “reviving our culture in drums” will feature drums from all across the state in its purest form and will be held at the Cultural Centre, Kuto in the beautiful and ancient capital of the state, Abeokuta.
The event is billed to start by 10am daily and the general public is expected to celebrate the festival with the people of the state.
It is indeed a thing of joy that Africans are beginning to value, appreciate and celebrate its own and this gathering is one that is heavily applauded.
Public commentators have also given a nod to the state government for the putting together of this event, saying tourism is one way we could build revenue for the country away from oil which is fast dwindling in the international market.
