OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE FROM AFRICAMP…
We’re happy to announce an exciting competition for mobile and web developers for the upcoming BarCamp Africa, sponsored by Chembe Ventures. Chembe Ventures provides seed capital to mobile application developers and web start-ups in Sub-Saharan Africa.
What is the East-West Challenge
This competition revolves around bridging East Africa with West Africa through technology – whether it’s a linguistic, cultural, technological, bandwidth… or any kind of divide you can think of. If you are a developer working to create technology that spans these two parts of Africa, or if you are working to connect these two regions of Africa in some way, we want to hear from you!
What’s the prize
If we like what you’re doing, you will be selected to have your base expenses paid to get you to BarCamp Africa in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire on June 4-7th! Which means covering your airfare in economy class (or part of it, depending on the cost) and simple accomodation for 4 nights in Abidjan. The composition of the jury will be announced at a later date.
How to enter the competition
-Tell us who you are and what you’re doing.
-Tell us why you should be at the BarCamp Africa.
-Got a video or additional materials to support your idea? Post that there as well.
Just make sure that you’ve got something tangible to show that bridges East and West Africa.
Don’t wait though, hurry up! We have to close the contest at midnight on May17th in order to select the people who get to come to Abidjan and arrange for their travel on time.
We’re looking forward to hearing from some creative people in Africa and their great ideas to revolutionize the East-West tech scene!
