President Jonathan made this statement during a press conference at Urugwiro Village, Rwanda, on yesterday.
Speaking on the country’s decision to hold this year’s independence celebration at Aso Rock, the President said that the decision was made to save costs and not for fear of the bomb threat by the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND).
“It’s a very wrong notion that is being painted that we celebrated our independence anniversary in the State House. We did not celebrate in the State House; we had a low key celebration…And let me use this opportunity to tell my country men and women who may be discussing this issue, even next year 2012, and 2013, we will not celebrate our independence anniversary, it will be low key” he said.
