iROKOtv has announced a deal with US-based internet streaming media, Netflix, to support the launch of a dedicated African section.
Netflix, the world’s leading internet TV service, famous for shows such as House of Cards and Orange is the New Black, quite recently featured Nigerian movie, October 1st and now, courtesy of iROKOtv, they will feature more African content.
According to iROKOtv CEO, Jason Njoku, the deal was reached last year December after months of negotiations to support the launch of Netflix’s dedicated African section.
“Obviously with 57m subscribers globally, working with Netflix is a great first step to widening or at least improving the visibility of Nollywood. Which again is super important to us at iROKO”.
The deal with Netflix, which is the latest iROKOtv’s partnerships with players in the content distribution space, comes on the heels of another deal it had with payTV operator, StarTimes, which will see the SVOD network launch two linear channels, iROKO Play and iROKO Plus, on the payTV platform.
