Aba is a major urban settlement and commercial center in Abia state, South-East of Nigeria . The city’s major shopping spot is the famous Ariaria market which has been stretched beyond its capacity.
That is about to change as Greenfield Assets Nigeria Limited is on a quest of transforming Aba City’s history of the old Open Market Retail System to Smart Mall Infrastructure .
The Aba Mega Mall has a projected development cost of $300 million, with 100,000 square meter of retail space for shopping, a multiplex movie theatre, bank, a transportation system and a dry dock for wholesale distribution.
Peter Obanua, CEO, Greenfield Assets Nigeria Limited, in an interview with Forbes, stated that the first phase of the 1,000 units of retail space has been completed and commissioned. The second phase has started and will include a luxury mall, 100 room boutique hotel, 6-screen cinema, 10-megawatt independent power supply, the dry port with a fully automated 30,000 sq mile warehouse. The second phase, he said, would allow for 10,000 units of space for commercial activities.
This new mall will bring renewal and facelift to the busy commercial city. Aba is the home of local industries in different sectors and its influence extends to other neighbougring African countries such as Ghana, Cameroon, Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
