Mustard Seed, a social enterprise investor and incubator has partnered with the Bertha Centre for Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship to host a Pitching Competition for entrepreneurs in Cape Town.
The competition is open to companies in start-up or early-growth phase, who articulate a compelling social and/or environmental mission, identify a clear target market, and explain how they plan to scale their business and a measure impact.
The event will include keynote speakers, the pitch competition itself with questions and answers from investors, an audience vote and a networking reception afterwards. From the final event, the Mustard Seed Investment Committee will select the top 5 finalists for consideration and due diligence.
Mustard Seed typically invests between $100,000 and $1,000,000 and provides very significant support toward scaling companies through its global investor network and their collective expertise and contacts. By investing in business with a clearly defined social or environmental mission, the company bridges a critical funding gap to support early-stage ventures.
To apply, startups are required to submit a 2-minute pitch video that indicates what social/environmental problem the company solves, traction, business model, scalability, how much money the company seeks, how it would be spent and how the company is going to make the world a better place.
Submission closes September 1, finalists will be announced September 3 and the final pitch event will be held on September 10, 2015.
