The tripartite meeting (government, union and employers) expressed satisfaction with the significant progress recorded in the implementation of the Economic and Social Growth Pact.
Chaired by Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal (67), the 18th Tripartite brought together members of government, the national directorate of the General Union of Algerian Workers (UGTA), employers’ organizations, leaders of large public companies as well as economists, experts and academicians.
Enumerating the progress made since the signing of the pact in February 2014, the Tripartite particularly mentioned the revision of the Law on labor relations, the identification of priority sectors benefiting from public support and the multidimensional support to the productive activity including through reducing the tax burden.
The Tripartite also highlighted the measures taken for the promotion of productive investment and the protection of infant industries, easing economic land management practices and increasing domestic supply in this area. The promotion of domestic production through recovery of consumer credit for Algerian products, and strengthening the regulation and supervision of markets and the practical implementation of many of facilitation measures related to Doing Business, are also examples of progress recorded, the statement said.
Following the discussions at the meeting, participants agreed to continue the works of the national committee with a mandate to ensure the implementation of commitments not yet made under Growth Pact. In this context, the Tripartite called for continued efforts to improve the business environment, strengthen investor confidence and to develop the adjustment capacity of sectorial strategies to stimulate growth as the importance of integrating the informal activities in the economic recovery process was also highlighted.
“Having considered the report of the National Monitoring Committee of the commitments of the pact, the participants expressed their satisfaction with the significant progress made in the implementation of the various segments of the growth pact,” the Tripartite’s final communique stated.
