The Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Rahamon Ade Bello FAEng; has added another feather to his cap by becoming the only Nigerian appointed together with 12 other Professors as Council member of The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU).
The body has over 500 member institutions in 37 countries across the commonwealth and it is governed by its member institutions through an elected Council. It is a UK-registered charity and council members also act as its Trustees.
Other members appointed into the council include Professor Edward Oben Ako from the University of Maroua, Cameroon, Professor (Ms.) Vasanthy Arasaratnam from the University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka, Professor Arun Diwaker Nath Bajpal from Himachal Pradesh University, India, Professor Rommela Mohee from the University of Mauritius, Professor Mahbubar Rahman from Mujibur Rahman Agricultural ?University, Bangladesh and Professor Christiania Slade from Bath Spa University, UK, all who hold their first term in the council. Others who are elected into the Council for their second term are; Professor John Thomas from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia, Professor Idris Rai from State University of Zanzibar, Tanzania, Professor Cheryl de la Rey from the University of Pretoria, South Africa. Two members are to continue their membership of the council and they are; Professor David Atkinson from MacEwan University, Professor Amit Chakma both from Canada and Professor Rajesh Chandra from the University of South Pacific.
The body which is collectively responsible for overseeing the ACU’s activities will officially elect Officers of Council and its Committees at the next Annual General Meeting scheduled to hold in December, 2015.
