The Angolan athlete Igor Silva, from Benfica de Luanda team, won the 10th and last round of the “Volta a Angola” (Tour of Angola) cycling competition, having done 11 minutes and six seconds (11m6s) in an 80 km route, namely from Caxito locality in Bengo Province to Luanda City, thus becoming also the winner of this sport event. He previously came 2nd in the 8th round with a 4h35m55s return and again won the 6th round with a 4h17m20s return in a 170 km route, starting from Ndalatando City to Melanje province.
Another Angolan, Dário Silva, from Benfica de Luanda team, won the 8th round of the cycling competition, who rode the 164 km route in 4 hours, 34 minutes and 55 seconds (4h34m55s).
The 8th round of the competition started in the northern Uige Province and ended in Quibaxe locality, in the neighboring Bengo Province. The 3rd position was occupied by the French cyclist Grzegorz Kwiatkowski (4h36m66s). The Portuguese Vitor Araújo and Nuno Manso finished in the 4th and 5th positions, respectively.
The 7th round of the event was won by the French Julien Foucault, from Club de la Defense, by travelling 93 km (between the northern localities of Camabatela and Uige) in two hours, 23 minutes and 27 seconds (2h23m27s).
The French cyclists of the Club de la Defense, Mederic Clain and Julien Foucault were the 1st and 2nd runners-up, respectively for the 6th round.
“Volta de Angola” in cycling is being organized by the Angolan Cycling Federation (FACI), which aims to attract the attention of cyclists, new talented athletes, popularize and expand the sport in the country, as well as measures the competitive level of the cyclists.
The race is part of the celebrations of 40 years of Angolan national independence, to be marked on 11 November
