We already reported the biggest sports event on the African soil for last year, Glo CAF Awards 2015, which was held yesterday evening in Abuja.
The award saw Pierre-Emerick AUBAMEYANG picking up Player of the Year award in the Glo CAF Awards 2015. The Confederation of African Football have just released how the coaches of the various Nationalities voted their best football player in the continent who plies his trade outside the continent.
According to the vote sheet released on CAF’s website, the coaches voted with scores of 1 to 5, on the order of performance with the former standing for a lower score and the latter, a higher score.
The score sheet indicated that the coaches of Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cape Verde, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Gambia, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritania, Mauritius, Rwanda, Somalia, South Africa, Uganda and Zimbabwe gave a score of 5 each to the eventual winner; Pierre-Emerick AUBAMEYANG.
The score sheet also showed that coaches of Botswana, Cote d’Ivoire, DR Congo, Djibouti, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Lesotho, Namibia, Niger, Swaziland, Tanzania and Togo preferred the Ivorian to be the African Player of the Year, giving him a score of 5 each.
When the scores were collated, Aubemayang scored 143 while his closest competitor, Yaya Toure, scored 136 and the third placed player of the year, Andre Ayew got 112 points.
The voting pattern showed that more coaches preferred the 26-year-old Gabonese to the Ivorian who is a 4 time winner of the most coveted award in African football.
It is to be noted that other players that was nominated for the award are: Aymen Abdennour, Modather Al Tayeb “Karika”, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané, Serge Aurier, Sofiane Feghouli, Yacine Brahimi with each polling 4, 6, 32, 61, 46, 40, 59 points respectively.
